Nevada County Families Need Our Help and Support

Community statistics indicate that as many as 75 to 100 children can be helped annually by the KARE Crisis Nursery, but we expect these numbers to be higher. Family emergencies are no stranger to our beautiful community (see column at right).

When parents have an unexpected family crisis, such as an accident, sudden serious illness, arrest, domestic violence or other urgent situation, they need immediate support, often in the form of overnight -- and possibly ongoing -- child care for young children

Kids from birth to age 6 are given safe and nurturing 24-hour care at the KARE Crisis Nursery for up to 30 days -- at no charge to the parents -- at these times. This early intervention at times of family stress can prevent child abuse and/or neglect, while also helping parents at a time when they have nowhere else to turn.

Medical professionals and child development specialists have concluded that the most important years in a young child's life are between birth and age 3. We believe that children should not be victims of unpredictable family crises. KARE will be a short-term home at these unexpected times.
